I have seen lots of Mother of the Bride Survival kits out there and they are very nice and worth their weight in gold! They have typical essentials that are needed just in case a situation comes up. As a previous Mother of the bride I walked down memory lane and thought about the things that I wish I had in MY Mother of the Bride Survival kit and want to share them below. Just know this is not your “typical” Mother of the Bride Survival Kit but it might just fit the bill for some!
I just love to hear the chatter, laughter and screams of fun from a bride’s ready room. It is the tone of sheer joy and excitement! But, sometimes it can be overwhelming to be in a tight space where there is lots of conversations going on to the point that you can’t understand one word anyone is saying! A pair of noise reducing ear buds will help with that.
I have linked my favorite in the title above, these babies will allow you to hear someone speaking directly to you but will reduce all the other noise. They come in lots of cute colors and of course basic black. These are great for concerts (ie: loud music from a wedding morning playlist) and some of my DJ friends use these as well during wedding receptions.
I don’t remember anything about my daughter’s wedding morning. I was busy running around decorating, making sure everything was perfect and all her vendors were in place, etc. If I had it all to do over again, I would get myself a multi-function tripod and set it up in the bride’s ready room with my iPhone or a video camera and record all of the fun and excitement my daughter was having getting ready for the most special day of her life with all of her besties.
If you don’t hire a wedding planner to do all the work for you, buy yourself a tripod so you can record the memories you might be missing out on. Might not be necessary for your survival, but not having those memories does cause a little bit of regret in the end. Linked to the title is a tripod I use, so you know it’s user friendly!
Sometime during the morning you might feel like you have heard enough of “Milkshake” or “Party in the USA”. If that happens download our Spotify Mother of the Bride Wedding Morning Play List. It’s packed with songs that are full of sentiment, make you get up and dance or go in the closet to cry-but most are meant to be uplifting! Linked in the title above.
I know, it sounds strange and may not exactly be necessary to survive the wedding day. But I promise you it will save you so much stress and time if you pack your bag with a box of plain envelopes and a few pens, doesn’t matter what color. There undoubtedly will be someone that needs an envelope for tips or a card, and they are going to come to you for them because mom’s have everything! And when it comes to guestbooks, pens are the number one forgotten item. I love the Sharpie S-Gel pens and carry them in my own emergency kit.
SO many cute water tumbler’s out there! Why not join in the fun and get your own personalized tumbler in the color scheme of the wedding. Now, true to every bride’s dressing room there are bound to be mimosa’s-so whatever you put in your water tumbler is up to you. Just make sure you stay hydrated. I have linked one of my favorite Etsy stores in the title above.
My daughter and I took a trip to Disneyworld this March. After reading a few blogs we realized we might need something to protect our little feet from blisters and I am so glad we found these! They are like a second skin so even if you already have a pesky blister popping up from those cute new wedding shoes you will have immediate relief! Trust me, I tried them and also keep these in my emergency kit just in case.
I love a good tote bag and think the Mother of the Bride totes on Etsy are cute but they don’t really have enough pockets or enough space to hold all the necessities we need on a wedding day. The tote bag linked above comes in a variety of colors, is spacious, has pockets for lots of things and can be personalized if you want to add that touch.
Since you need something to put all of the things in, you might as well get something that is functional and organized. Make sure it’s got places for your cell phone, your tumbler, your keys, and all of the other items listed above. It’s so much easier to put all of your things in one bag so you can just grab it at the end of the night and go!
Of course, you are going to need all of the other essentials that a wedding day emergency kit traditionally would have. I’ve listed below other essentials that you might want to bring along just in case you need them and the list an go on and on, so bring only what you feel you may possibly need.
Your main focus on the wedding day is to be support for your daughter, but you also have to maintain your sanity and take care of yourself in the mix. By having a few personalized items for yourself as well as some essential emergency kit items, you will be the mom who handles unexpected fashion fixes, offers a bit of comfort and calm to the weary bridesmaid AND is crying only happy tears at the end of the day.
So pack those essentials, breathe deeply, and savor every unforgettable moment.
